My name is Lisa Gordon and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Washington, DC and Maryland with 15 plus years of experience providing individual and group therapy. I am a Christian originally from Boston, Massachusetts. I have a Master’s degree from Howard University in Social Work. I enjoy travel, laughter and the beach. I am naturally drawn to people and enjoy seeing people heal, grow and fulfill their dreams. As your therapist, my primary goal is to help you feel supported on your road to change. My role is to listen to your needs, help you build on your strengths and identify a plan of action to move forward despite the circumstances. Other certifications include being a Prepare Enrich Facilitator and a Board Approved Supervisor in Maryland.

Am I a candidate for therapy?

If you are thinking about going to therapy, then chances are there are good reasons. Trust your instinct. You know when it is time to seek help and support. Contacting a licensed professional is the first step to change and a scary one. The truth is therapy is not as taboo as it used to be in previous generations. Many people are being mindful of their mental health and are realizing it is just as important as any other physical health concerns. Also, therapy is confidential (with the caveat of reports of harm to self and/or others). Many people appreciate having a neutral person to talk to with professional skills to help.

What are the first steps?

Once, you have decided that you are in need of services. The next step is to give our office a call or send and email. During the initial contact you can briefly share what some of your current concerns are. We will also discuss payment options. Our office currently accepts the following insurance:

BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELDS, CARE FIRST & CIGNA. We also accept self-pay and EAP clients. 

Finally once a date is scheduled, you will receive the intake packet by email. Complete the forms and bring them with you to your first appointment. If you are using insurance for payment, you will be notified of your co-payment amount prior to your 1st visit.

What to expect during my first appointment?

The first appointment will be an assessment consisting of information gathering. Sessions are 50 minutes long. We will discuss your need for services in more depth. This is an opportunity to share what’s on your mind so that you and your Therapist can develop goals and a plan of action to work towards. There will also be discussion on how often you should come in for treatment ( weekly or bi-weekly). Payment is due at the end of each session. Our office accepts cash and/or credit cards for payment.
